“Time and tide waits for none”
Indeed, it is an old saying and it holds true. We all know the importance of money and the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us to value the power of money. And, we do a lot of things for financial planning to plan for the future so that it is safe and secure.
But, often we ignore the most important asset that is, TIME. We need to value time as much as we value money as wasting it would be similar to wasting money.
Time is the most precious resource because you can’t get the time back. We often think that money is essential for our life though it is true because it allows you to do things you want to and live a fulfilled life.
But more than that, time is priceless as life is short and every second counts as the clock is ticking.
“Time is what we want most, but what we use worst.” — William Penn
You’re a truly wealthier person if you value time even more than money. Many people look at their bank accounts and assess how much money they have…but they don’t look at the time in the same manner. And, in the end, they waste this incredibly valuable resource.
Here’re five reasons why time is the most precious and valuable resource and you shouldn’t waste it.
#1. You don’t get it back
You can recover the money you’ve lost due to certain reasons like theft or recession by working hard but you cannot get back the time you lost. We often find people saying that “I wish I had got back the lost time” or people who are on death bed often say that “If only I had more time”. But, that can never be possible as time is an intangible resource and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever and you can never get it back. So, it’s really to know what you’re going to do with the time you have.
#2. Time, and not Money, is a great healer
Yes, indeed, time is a great healer than the amount of money you have. As the old saying goes that Time heals everything. You ask a question to the one who has lost a loved one that whether the time is a great healer or not. And, I bet their reply will be Yes. Of course, they will say that you can never get back to those who have lost but with time, you move on in your life. Also, time is a great healer because it allows you to take your time to realize your strength and weaknesses, and also realize who you really are or who you want to become.
#3. It brings MORE happiness and excitement
Yes, it’s time that brings more happiness and not money. Of course, if you have money then you can buy all the materialistic things but you cannot buy happiness. You can never be happy whatever amount of money you have. A study asked the participants what brings them greater happiness – free time or money. And, over half of the people participating in the study said that it was free that brought more happiness than money. I have heard many people saying that I wish I’d had some free time. But, it is worth noting that as you grow with experience then you tend to value the “FREE” time much more as compared to younger people who want to utilize any free time available to work. Also, many people spend a lot of time ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. If at all you stop thinking about what happened in the past or worry too much about what will happen in the future, you will be happier and lead a peaceful life.
#4. You don’t know how much time is left
Another reason why time really matters over money is that you don’t know how much time you have got in your hands. No one is immortal and everyone who have come to this earth has to go some day or the other. You cannot really predict the future or don’t know what will happen in the next moment. You need to be aware of this reality and live life as you will die tomorrow.
#5. Everything is time bound
And, finally, everything on this earth is bound by the time like trees, plants, animals, human beings etc. Every single thing in this entire universe is affected by the time. All these things gradually age and eventually decay with the advancement of time.
So, the bottom line is that when you compare TIME with MONEY, there’s NO contest at all. It’s true that money helps you live a life you want to and do whatever you love to do but it’s TIME itself that gives the greatest benefit.
