#1. Find your niche
First and foremost, you need to identify your niche or your area of expertise. It is important to ask yourself what you are passionate about. Cooking? Fashion? Travel? Once you identified your area in which you want to write then just go ahead and write about it. Finding a niche is a very important step if you want to become a successful blogger. A piece of advice though is that you should always write what you know and what you like writing about.
#2. Choose a blogging platform
Once you know the area in which you want to create content for blogs, the next step is to start a blog. There are many blogger platforms available, such as Blogger, WordPress, and so on that allow you to start your own blog and that too for free. However, I would strictly recommend registering a domain and go for a paid blog if you are serious about it.
#3. Design your blog
Now that you have chosen a blogging platform that suits your requirements, the next step is to design the look and feel of your blog. I would recommend to for the KISS approach, which means Keep It Simple, Stupid.
Do not try to overdo too much from design perspective and keep it as straightforward as possible. Remember, your focus should always be on the content of your blog so focus all your energies on your content rather than the design. If you have chosen WordPress, then it comes with a lot of free themes that you can leverage for your blog. So, you must choose a theme depending on your niche.
#4. Modify your blog to define your style and niche
Once you have selected a theme for your blog then you need to define the style and background color or color scheme. You need to choose a color scheme that best describes your niche. I would recommend here to choose any color scheme that is light and soothing.
#5. Write compelling content
This is one of the most important steps to build a successful blog. You need to write compelling content and by that, I mean that the content needs to be of good quality. You must never compromise on quality. Consider this. If you will write shabby content, then your blog may not even show up on search engine results and if it doesn’t appear then it may not reach your audience.
While writing a blog, you must ask yourselves, ”Will this be of any use to my reader?”, or “What’s in it for the readers?”.
#6. Share your content
You have written your blog so this is it. Your job is DONE, right. No, it’s not because unless you will not share with your audience, then how will they read it. You can’t just keep on writing blogs in hope that someone will read them. You need to deliberately reach your audience via social media.
There are various social media channels available today like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumbler, Pinterest, and so on. You must choose the social media channel that suits your requirement and your audience profile.
#7. Produce content consistently
Now that you have shared the content on social media then your audience will always be on the lookout for more. You need to maintain consistency in publishing the content on your blog. Consistency is the key over here while publishing the content. But this doesn’t mean that you must write daily as we know there may be other priorities as well.
But, you need to ensure that you stay consistent while writing the blog. For instance, if you decided to write your first blog on Tuesday then you need to ensure that you need to publish the next blog next Tuesday.
#8. Give away something for free
And, last but not the least, give some of your content that you feel you can share with your readers for free in a form of a downloadable guide or an eBook. This will allow you to attract more visitors to your blog and they will also think of you as an expert in your chosen niche. You will become their GOTO person whenever they need any help.
So, these are some of the steps that you can follow to become a successful blogger. Blogging requires patience, a lot indeed if you want to seriously attract readers to your blog.
But, at times, it may happen we may think why we really our blogging for if it doesn’t give us in return. You may get these thoughts in your mind even before you start to write your first blog.
